A great auto technician or also know as mechanic must have a love of automobiles but there are other important factors as well. This career field demands knowledge, ability and persistence to diasgnose and properly solve the problem at hand.

Will my car warranty be voided if I do not use a dealer for service and repair?

This question is often pondered by car owners. They love the convenience and relationship of the local shop vs the dealership but warranty is important.

Some owners feel that their vehicle must be taken to the dealership for service and repair to stay within warranty.In checking with the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, which since 1972 has tested and certified repair and service professionals, including dealers and independent mechanics, it turns out many owners choose not to take their cars back to the dealer. According to Tony Molla, a spokesman for the institute. Seventy percent of car owners go to the independents for what is known as “aftermarket” care while the cars are still under warranty. The rapport and trust is critical.

So the big question is this: If something goes wrong when the car is under warranty, will the warranties be voided? In most cases, no. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 — which applies to all sorts of products, not just cars — ensures that except in rare instances, a dealer must honor the warranty.
